The unit is powered by AA batteries that come included in the kit. This model also comes complete with an alarm function that informs you when the batteries are running low and need changing. The Kidde 0230UK is able to provide continuous monitoring of carbon monoxide levels, even during power outages--it runs on batteries, not a mains power supply. For peace of mind, a test/reset button allows you to test that alarm is functioning correctly, plus a peak-level memory keeps track of the maximum carbon monoxide levels detected between resets.
